Spring has finally sprung and with that blueberries are now in season here in the UK! I managed to pick up a huge pallet of them from my local shops for £2 and have perfected the blueberry smoothie. I have been using mostly frozen fruit for these too, as I find it makes it very cold and refreshing, but it i not necessary for this to be ice cold.
This smoothie consists of:
- 1 cup of blueberries
- 1 banana
- half a cup of strawberries
- 400ml of water (or enough to get it to your desired consistency)
As I have been working out a lot more recently and starting to do longer runs around my town, I will also add a scoop of protein powder to the smoothie for some added nutrients. It is not necessary, but I have found that some protein powder after a big workout helps me recover a lot quicker, so I don’t suffer with terrible DOMS the next day!
This smoothie is super filling and also very refreshing. I tend to like my smoothies on the thicker side, so you can also add some milk or fruit juice to it to make it a bit smoother or creamier without watering down any of the flavours.
